Nurnberg 1632 ducat Fr-1824

Sincona sale 63, lot 404

This specimen was lot 404 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$439 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Nurnberg, City. Dukat 1632. Lamm auf Erdkugel, Chronogramm in der Umschrift. Schön-sehr schön. (Germany, city of Nurnberg, ducat of 1632, obverse: lamb atop globe, chronogram date in legend. Fine-very fine.)"

This ducat and the accompanying double ducat (Fr-1823) were issued to urge the coming of peace. Alas, the signing of the Peace of Westphalia which ended the Thirty Years War did not occur until 1648.
