Künker sale 352, lot 1722

This specimen was lot 1722 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,366 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AUGSBURG, STADT, Dukat 1633, geprägt unter schwedischer Besetzung durch Gustav II. Adolf. Posthume Prägung. GOLD. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, city of Augsburg, ducat of 1633, struck under Swedish occupation, posthumous strike for Gustavus Adolphus. Very rare, very fine.)"

This coin of 1632-33, like the related issues of Nuremberg and Erfurt, honored the Swedish king, regarded as the savior of Protestantism in Germany.
