This specimen was lot 4277 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 8,500 CHF (about US$11,307 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Augsburg, Stadt Schwedische Besatzung. Gustav II. Adolf, 1611-1632. Doppeldukat 1632. Belorbeertes, geharnischtes Brustbild von Gustav Adolf und drapiertes Brustbild von Eleonora mit Halskette nach rechts. Rv. Unter der schwedischen Königskrone in Schnitzwerk die Wappen von Schweden und Brandenburg, darunter Stadtpyr zwischen 16 - 32 und darunter ein Hufeisen. Vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Augsburg, Swedish occupation, double ducat of 1632. Obverse: armored bust of Gustavus Adolphus and draped bust of queen Eleonora with collar to right; reverse: Swedish crown above the arms of Sweden and Brandenburg, date and horseshoe below)."
This coin, like the related issues of Nuremberg and Erfurt, honored the Swedish king, regarded as the savior of Protestantism in Germany.
