Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24277

This specimen was lot 24277 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 500 Pesos, 1986-Mo. Mexico City Mint. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. A technically flawless and attractive proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." Mexico issued several commemoratives for her hosting the World Cup of 1986, which was marred by a massive earthquake which badly damaged Mexico City. This type comes with and without (shown here) a fineness statement.

Recorded mintage: 51,776 for 1985-86.

Specification: 17.28 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.5000 troy oz AGW.
