This specimen was lot 1303 in Jean Elsen sale 114 (Brussels, September 2012) where it sold for €565 (about US$873 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"MEXIQUE, Etats-Unis (1905- ), AV 500 pesos, 1985, Coupe du monde de football. Flan Poli. (Mexico, United States, gold 500 pesos of 1985, on the soccer World Cup, proof.)"

Mexico issued several commemoratives for her hosting the World Cup of 1986, which was marred by a massive earthquake which badly damaged Mexico City.

Specification: 17.28 g, 0.900 fine gold, .500 troy oz AGW.
