This specimen was lot 21318 in Heritage sale 61630 (Dallas, February 2024), where it sold for $1,170. The lot description[1] noted, "Mexico: Estados Unidos gold "World Cup" 500 Pesos 1985-Mo MS67 NGC, Mexico City mint." This NCLT comes with (shown here) or without "ORO 900" stamped in the bottom of the reverse. The two varieties are priced the same, earning little premium over the melt value. Mexico issued several commemoratives for her hosting the World Cup of 1986, which was marred by a massive earthquake which badly damaged Mexico City.

Recorded mintage: 51,776 for 1985-86, including KM 501.2.

Specification: 17.28 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW.
