This specimen was lot 72644 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 500 Pesos, 1985-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS PROOF-68 Deep Cameo. Anniversary of the Revolution. A brilliant Proof with frosty raised devices and mirrored fields. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." The year 1985 marked the first time that a 500 peso coin was struck (the denomination had heretofore been a banknote). Several were issued for the 1986 World Cup (KM 501.1, 501.2, 507.1, 507.2) and this one marking the 75th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. In 1986, the denomination was introduced as a circulation coin struck in copper-nickel (KM 529).
