Mexico 1903Mo 20 pesos rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 1406 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $___. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 20 Pesos, 1903-MoM. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Appears to be a 1903/1902 overdate." This type was struck at Mexico City 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Oaxaca and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The 1903MoM is considered a common date. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 31,000.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .952 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-119; KM-414.6.
