This specimen was lot 31326 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1903 Cn-Q MS63 Prooflike NGC, Culiacan mint. A similar Choice Brilliant Uncirculated coin, with nearly full mint luster. Also rare in this select preservation and worthy of a significant bid. From The FoxLair Collection." This type was struck at Culiacan 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Mexico City, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Oaxaca and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The 1903CnQ is considered a common date. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,121.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .953 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 414.2, Fr-122.
