This specimen was lot 11106 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1821. RARE date. Typical crude manufacture. Darkly toned. A few light scratches. FINE." This type was struck 1814-22 under very primitive conditions. The SCWC notes that most specimens were struck over cast Chihuahua eight reales (KM 123).
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
