Mexico 1821 2 reales rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a series minted 1812-21 in Mexico City during the reign of Ferdinand VII. It uses the "standard bust" of Ferdinand. The mounting anarchy unleashed during the War of Independence forced the royal authorities to open branch mints, such as Zacatecas, Guanajuato and Durango. The date is common. Assayer JJ is recorded for 1812-21. The Mexico City mint, opened in 1538, is still in operation.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
