This specimen was lot 24350 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence. Guanajuato. 8 Reales, 1821-JM. PCGS FINE-12 Secure Holder. Toned." The Guanajuato mint was opened in 1812 by the royalists during the Mexican war of independence and operated until 1900. It struck eight reales with the portrait of Ferdinand VII 1812-13 and 1821-22; the later dates were struck after independence. Many are very crude.
