This specimen was lot 25411 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $6,168.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1821 Mo-JJ, Mexico City mint, MS62 NGC. The bottom of the coin a tad softly struck but Brilliant Uncirculated, with few contact marks in the fields and thus very scarce. This final date in the series is also traditionally considered rarer. Ex Aureo (10/2013, lot 996 for E2,900)." This type is noted for 1814-21 and has always been popular for those deep-pocketed enough to afford it, especially in this quality.
