This specimen was lot 31398 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 4 Escudos 1820 Mo-JJ XF45 NGC, Mexico City mint. Choice for the designation with rather lustrous surfaces and limited actual wear, albeit a tad softly struck in the centers as is usually seen on this issue. Among the finest seen of this final and scarcer date of the type - and currently the second finest certified by NGC, the other an AU50 coin - this attractive specimen is a suiting example to conclude the marvelous run of 4 Escudos in the present collection. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." This scarce type was struck 1814-21 and is usually seen in VF-EF or lower. Jewelry damage is common.
