This specimen was lot 40389 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $881. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 4 Escudos, 1820-GJ. Madrid Mint. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder." This type was issued at Madrid 1814-20 and 1824 and is the last issue of the traditional gold four escudos. Unlike the four escudos of the Latin American mints, it is fairly common.

Specification: 13.54 g, .875 fine gold, .393 troy oz AGW.
