Sincona sale 9, lot 3783

This specimen was lot 3783 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$348 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hessen-Darmstadt, Grossherzogtum Ludwig II. 1830-1848. Doppelter Vereinstaler 1842. Fleck auf Av. Vorzüglich. (Grand duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, Louis II, 1830-48, double thaler of 1842, spots on obverse, extremely fine.)"

This type was issued 1839-42 and is fairly expensive, considering its substantial mintage.
