This specimen was lot 2249 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "HESSE-DARMSTADT: Ludwig II, 1830-1848, AR 6 kreuzer, 1841, wonderful cartwheel luster, NGC graded MS65+." This type was struck 1838-42 and is common. Hesse-Darmstadt struck coinage to the unified empire standard after 1871. Her rival, Hesse-Cassel, was annexed by Prussia in 1866 along with Nassau and was not a sovereign part of the Wilhelmine empire.
