This specimen was lot 4265 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €650 (about US$894 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HESSEN-DARMSTADT, LANDGRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM Ludwig II., 1830-1848. Gulden 1842. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung Jürgen und Erika Schmidt, Bovenden. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 254, Osnabrück 2014, Nr. 3529. (grand duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, Louis II, 1830-48, gulden of 1842. Choice example, superb patina, about uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1839-47 and has a high catalog value in uncirculated. Hesse-Darmstadt became plain Hesse when Hesse-Cassel was annexed to Prussia in 1866.
