This specimen was lot 903 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,348 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HESSEN, HESSEN-DARMSTADT, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM, Ludwig II. 1830-1848. Vereinsdoppeltaler 1841. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (grand duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, Louis II, 1830-48, double union thaler of 1841. Proof example, beautiful patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was issued 1839-42 and is fairly expensive, considering its substantial mintage.
