Frankfurt 1841 2 thalers Dav-640

This type was struck by the free city of Frankfurt am Main 1840-44. Its face value of 2 thalers was equal to 3½ gulden. City view thalers, so popular in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, were becoming quaint in the 1840's and this one may be the last one ever issued. Frankfurt was annexed by Prussia in 1866 and its coinage ceased.

Recorded mintage: 121,000 (including Dav-641).

Specification: 37.04 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.071 troy oz ASW.
