Frankfurt 1842 kreuzer

Stack's Bowers September 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74621

This specimen was lot 74621 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Kreuzer, 1842. Frankfurt Mint. PCGS MS-66. Intense luster is ringed to spectacular effect by pale pastel blue iridescence on both faces. A true pleasure to examine under a glass, this magnificent little minor would enliven any German States or Frankfurt type cabinet." This tiny billon coin was struck 1838, 1841-57. The thaler was 120 kreuzer. The lowest value coin struck in Frankfurt at the time was the heller, one eighth of a kreuzer.
