Frankfurt 1843 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 74622 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Kreuzer, 1843. Frankfurt Mint. PCGS MS-67. A trophy coin for all those interested in the series, 1843 is one of the toughest dates by mintage yet this Superb Gem has remained unscathed throughout the ages. Silver gray surfaces display a slight olive tinge when rotated under a light all while strike, brilliant luster, and preservation are virtually pristine." This tiny billon coin was struck 1838, 1841-57. The thaler was 120 kreuzer. The lowest value coin struck in Frankfurt at the time was the heller, one eighth of a kreuzer.
