This specimen was lot 4337 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $230 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Hesse-Darmstadt. 2 Talers, 1844. Ludwig III. Small edge nick. Toned. Very Fine to Extremely Fine. The George C. Follis Collection." This one year type is rather scarce.
Recorded mintage: 377,000.
