This specimen was lot 3702 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 175 CHF (about US$225 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Bayern, Königreich Ludwig I. 1825-1848. Doppelter Vereinstaler 1842. Hochzeit des Kronprinzen Maximilian. Datum 12. Oktober. Vorzüglich. (Kingdom of Bavaria, Louis I, 1825-48, double union thaler of 1842, on the marriage of the crown prince Maximilian. Dated 12 October. Extremely fine.)"

A variety exists with an error as to the date of the wedding, a blunder which in former times would have made heads roll.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 37,16 g.

Catalog reference: Kahnt 108. Thun 81, Dav-588, KM 812.1 (formerly KM 431.1).
