Hannover 1764-IWS 1/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 5217 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €170 (about US$220 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. 1/3 Taler 1764, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. R Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 64, Osnabrück 2001, Nr. 4772. (electorate of Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, one-third thaler of 1764, Claustal mint, for the St. Andrew mine. Rare, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This "St. Andrew" third thaler was struck 1764, 1766 and 1770 and is rather scarce. There is also KM 349, with a wild man reverse.
