Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73462
SB1024-73462r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73462 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guerrero. 2 Centavos, 1915. NGC AU-58. A RARE type that was struck under the authority of Emiliano Zapata, with this example being our first offering of this type since 2019. The details are pleasing, and evidence of circulation or drawdown is limited to only the highest design elements. Some light green deposits are seen, though these do little to detract from the overall eye appeal." Being made by the Zapatistas under primitive conditions using hand cut dies, many varieties exist. The Taxco 2 centavos is much more available.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6 g, copper, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-638; GB-182.
