This specimen was lot 1255 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $2,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or aus 8 L et aux insignes, 1702-Cow (Pau). Louis XIV. Struck over earlier type. Rarity-8. PCGS graded Extremely Fine Detail (Cleaned)." This subtype is known for 1701-02 only and is very rare. The Pau mint would not become prolific until mid-century, during the reign of Louis XV.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare[2].

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 24-26 mm diameter.
