Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74705

This specimen was lot 74705 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/4 Ecu, 1702-E. Tours Mint. Louis XIV. PCGS VF-35. From the Richard August Collection." Shown is a quart d'écu aux insignes (quarter écu with insignia) struck at the Tours mint for France in the last years of Louis XIV's reign. The type was struck 1701-03 in substantial numbers. There are also twelfth, half and one écus struck during this period with this design.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date[2].

Specification: 6.86 g, 0.917 fine silver, reeded edge.
