Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1747

This specimen was lot 1747 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €135 (about US$163 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 50 pesos (5 oz), 2000. Sous-marin Peral. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver fifty pesos (five troy oz) of 2000, submarine Peral. Proof.)"

Wikipedia comments, "Peral was the first successful full electric battery-powered submarine, built by the Spanish engineer and sailor Isaac Peral for the Spanish Navy, in Arsenal de la Carraca (today's Navantia). The first fully capable military submarine, she was launched 8 September 1888."
