Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1742

This specimen was lot 1742 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €145 (about US$175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 50 pesos (5 oz), 1996. Papillon. 950 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver fifty pesos (five troy oz) of 1996, butterfly. 950 pieces struck. Proof.)"

After the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's was greeted by disinterest from the world at large, the regime switched to less political topics such as sports and history. This was part of an series celebrating Cuban wildlife. This is an early colored coin.
