Colombia 1871-P 5 decimos
This specimen was lot 42013 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1871-P 5 Decimos. Popayán mint. VF-20 (PCGS). Called "rare" by Restrepo and "very rare" in Burnett's Half Dollars of Columbia (where this issue is unpriced), this date is rarely encountered in even advanced collections. Silver gray with some darker olive and gray toning around devices and peripheries. While the central device is soft, the reverse is fairly well-defined. Only minor hairlines are noted. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This is a scarce date of this type struck at Popayán 1869-71, 1873-74, 1878, 1880. Five décimos were also struck at Medellin and Bogotá.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 12.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 0.335 troy oz ASW.
