This specimen was part of lot 44297 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (5) 1/4 Decimos, 1871-1874. Popayan Mint. VF-25, VF-35 (2), EF-40, AU Detail--Tooled (PCGS). 5 pieces in lot. All KM-143.2a, Restrepo type 248. 1871, 1872/1, 1872 (filled 2, Restrepo 248.19a), 1873, and 1874 (8/8/8, Restrepo 248.25b). Very interesting study set for the variety specialist. Only the 1873 exhibits damage (VF Details-Tooled), remainder show even wear and various degrees of toning. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This coin is a quarter décimo, or 1/40 of a peso (a quarter real is 1/32 of a peso); this denomination was struck at Bogotá 1868-71 and 1881 and Popayán (shown here) 1868-81. None are common, particularly in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 155,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 0.85 g, 0.666 fine silver.
