This specimen was lot 30654 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Estados Unidos gold 20 Pesos 1871-POPAYAN XF45 PCGS, Popayan mint. A highly original example with one notable mark at the top of Liberty's portrait." This type was struck at Bogotá 1862-77, Medellin 1867-72 and Popayán 1863-78. Despite the steady issue, the type is rare and expensive.
