Colombia 1871-M peso

This specimen was minted in Medellin, Colombia, in 1871. This type was minted at Bogotá and Medellin 1868-71 and is the last silver peso minted in Colombia in the nineteenth century. After this issue, the mints concentrated on half dollars. This specimen was lot 2548 in Goldberg sale 34 (Beverly Hills, February 2006), where it sold for $400. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Colombia. Peso, 1871 (Medellin). Liberty head. Reverse: Condor above coat of arms. Very Fine to Extremely Fine."

Recorded mintage: 55,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
