Colombia 1872-P 1/4 decimo
This specimen was part of lot 44249 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (3) 1/4 Decimos, 1863, 1872, and 1875. Popayan Mint. VF-30, VF-35, EF-45 (PCGS). 3 pieces in lot. 1863 PCGS VF-30, KM-143.2, Restrepo-248.3, well struck with reverse rosettes clear, toned, 1872 PCGS VF-35, fully detailed, and 1875 PCGS EF-45, KM-143.2a, Restrepo-248.27, strongly doubled 8, fully detailed and untoned. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This coin is a quarter decimo, or 1/40 of a peso (a quarter real is 1/32 of a peso); this denomination was struck at Bogotá 1868-71 and 1881 and Popayán (shown here) 1868-81. None are common, particularly in nice condition. An 1872/1 overdate is mentioned.
