This specimen was lot 31247 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Estados Unidos gold Peso 1872-Medellin, MS65 NGC. A deeply struck example with sharp design features and virtually flawless surfaces. Very scarce in this certified grade." This type was struck at Medellin 1872-73 along with a gold peso with a shield reverse (KM 156).
Recorded mintage: 62,000 (Including KM 156).
Specification: 1.61 g, 0.900 fine gold, .046 troy oz AGW.
