Colombia 1872-M 2 pesos
This specimen was lot 40372 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1872 2 Pesos. Medellín mint. MS-62 (PCGS). Resplendent with luster and far finer in terms of eye appeal than the grade assigned. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Hans M.F. Schulman, March 1968." This type was struck at the Medellín mint 1871-72 and 1876. Except for a very rare issue of 1885, it was the last two pesos gold piece. Fortunately, it is reasonably common and available for a price. The multiple die breaks and repunched letters are typical of this coinage.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.23 g, 0.900 fine gold, .093 troy oz AGW.
