Sedwick sale 11, lot 1121

The specimen shown was lot 1121 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogotá, Colombia, 5 decimos, 1870. VF+ (rare grade for this type) with typically weak centers, hint of luster and toning in legends, no problems." While Colombian half dollars are common as a class, even in uncirculated, this is not a common date. Bogotá struck five décimos 1868-71 and then switched to fifty centavos 1872-85 (KM 172.1, 177.1).

Recorded mintage: 206,000.

Specification: 12.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, .335 troy oz ASW, edge lettered DIOS LEY LIBERTAD, this specimen 12.4 grams.
