Colombia 1870-M 1/2 decimo
This specimen was lot 44286 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $7,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1/2 Decimo, 1870. Medellin Mint. VF-25 (PCGS). VERY RARE. Krause lists as "rare", Restrepo lists with note stating '2 known'. Full details on a somewhat crudely struck issue. Planchet error at 11 o'clock. Attractive even gray toning. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck at Medellin 1870-72 with similar issues coming from Bogota and Popayan. This liberty head design superseded the prior type (KM 144) which depicted two cornucopias and a pomegranate.
