Colombia 1865-B 1/2 decimo
This specimen was part of lot 44224 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. Lot of (4) 1/2 Decimos, 1860-1865. Bogota Mint. VF-20, VF-25, VF-30, EF-40 (PCGS). 4 pieces in lot. 1860 and 1861, full details, the 1860 with gray toning and 1861 untoned. 1864 and 1865, both dark gray toned, moderately struck. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This half décimo, an early effort at a decimal coinage, was accompanied by a silver one décimo of similar design (KM 145.1). It was issued 1863-65. Labeled "Estados Unidos de Colombia," it was superseded a liberty head design after 1868.
Recorded mintage: 29,000 for 1865, a rare date.
