Sincona sale 13, lot 2027

This specimen was lot 2027 in Sincona sale 13 (Zürich, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chile, Fernando VII. 1808-1821, 8 Escudos 1812. Santiago de Chile Assayer FJ. Vorzüglich." The specimen was one of a series struck 1811-17 during the reign of Ferdinand VII. It bears his name and the bust of Charles IV, who abdicated in 1808. The bust of Ferdinand appears on the eight reales and the two reales but not on any gold. This type is fairly common for Spanish colonial gold.

Recorded mintage: 48,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW, this specimen 26.97 g.
