Peru 1812-L JP 8 escudos Fr-50
This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, in 1812. This specimen was lot 3513 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted,
"1812 JP 8 escudos. Lima mint. AU-58 (NGC). Small draped and laureated bust of Fernando VII to right, legends around, date below / crowned arms, legends around. Bright and lustrous yellow gold with many scattered planchet imperfections at central and right obverse. Slightly reflective in the peripheral recesses, nicely struck and very appealing. This bust type was intended for (and used on) 4 reales between 1811 and 1821 at Lima, but was only used on 8 escudos in 1812 and 1813. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
