This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, of a type struck 1812-14. This specimen was lot 3519 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "1813 JP 1 escudo. Lima mint. AU-50 (NGC). Types as above. Medium gold, planchet flaw behind head, scrape left of shield on reverse. Pleasing and interesting as a brief three-year design type. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
