This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, of a type struck 1812-13 only. This specimen was lot 3516 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,955. The catalog description[1] noted, "1812 JP 2 escudos. Lima mint. AU-55 (NGC). Types as above. Medium yellow gold with some lustre retained in the protected areas. Thin scratch through the shield. Very attractive and somewhat reflective in protected areas. This is the same bust used on 1 reales of Lima from 1811 to 1823. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
