This specimen was lot 1257 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 2 escudos, Ferdinand VII, 1815 JP, large bust, rare, NGC XF 45, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Choice full rims with light red toning over luster, very close (or arguably at) AU grade. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." In 1812-13, the Lima mint struck two escudos using the draped bust punch intended for the silver one real. In 1814, the bare bust (shown here) was adopted and used until the end of colonial issues in 1821. All dates are scarce to rare. Assayer JP is recorded for 1803-23.
