Chile 1812-So FJ 1/2 real
This specimen was lot 74210 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/2 Real, 1812-So FJ. Santiago Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS VF-20. Type with bust of Charles IV. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck at Santiago 1808-17 in limited numbers and was the final half real struck with the portrait of the king. Assayer FJ operated 1803-17 and survived into the republican regime. The bust of Charles IV was used throughout the series even tho the imaginary bust of Ferdinand VII appears on the two reales, eight reales and eight escudos.
