Künker sale 336, lot 6436

This specimen was lot 6436 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,225 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand I. 1835-1848. Dukat 1847, V, Venedig. R Min. gewellt, kl. Randfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (empire of Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, ducat of 1847, Venice mint. Slightly bent, some rim bumps, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1837-48 in substantial numbers from Vienna, Kremnitz, Karlsburg and Venice (shown here). Some authorities list this issue under Lombardy-Venetia but it differs only in mintmark from the Vienna product.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, 20 mm diameter. this specimen 3,44 g.
