Sincona sale 9, lot 4885

This specimen was lot 4885 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$253 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ÖSTERREICH Ferdinand I. 1835-1848. Konventionstaler 1847, Wien. Kl. Kr. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, convention thaler of 1847, Vienna mint, cleaned, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1837-48 at Vienna ("A") and Milan ("M") but is only scarce. Thalers were struck to this weight standard until 1852.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, 38 mm diameter, this specimen 27.98 g.
