Sincona sale 90, lot 1633

This specimen was lot 1633 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 9,500 CHF (about US$12,750 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Ferdinand I. 1835-1848. 4 Dukaten 1847 A, Wien. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS62 PL. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (empire of Austria, Ferdinand I, 1835-48, four ducats of 1847, Vienna mint. Rare in this condition, Finest certified by NGC.)"

This type was struck 1835-48. It is expensive tho not rare. Emperor Ferdinand was severely epileptic and considered unfit to rule. He was readily persuaded to abdicate during the revolution of 1848.
