Sincona sale 76, lot 1484

This specimen was lot 1484 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,156 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Leopold II. 1790-1792. Dukat 1791 E, Karlsburg. Fast FDC. NGC MS63. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Austria, Leopold II, 1790-92, ducat of 1791, Karlsburg mint. About uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This type is listed for several mints from 1790-92 and is scarce. Confusingly, Friedburg lists this under Hungary, which is technically correct, as Karlsburg is in Hungary, but the design is strictly Austrian.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.50 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.49 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1883, Huszar 1908. Herinek 9. Fr-207.
